CHEP USA helps to identify opportunities within customer supply chains where trucking movements can be optimised and facilitate a solution to the mutual benefit of the customer and CHEP USA.
Under the GreenLanes™ program, CHEP USA works with customers and third party vendors to help identify new areas of value in their transport networks, which can result in more efficient and predictable network routes while reducing supply chain costs for the customer, CHEP and third party vendor.
For example, once a freight carrier has delivered a load of product, CHEP is able to direct the same carrier to haul pallets from that location or somewhere nearby, to a destination along its return trip.
This allows the carrier to avoid travelling with an empty trailer and CHEP avoids the need to arrange a separate trip to that location to retrieve the pallets. The program increases asset productivity, avoids unnecessary transportation, and reduces associated fuel use and carbon emissions.
To date, CHEP has collaborated with customers on more than 6,600 individual truck movements, resulting in the elimination of an estimated 800,000 miles (1.29 million kilometres) of transportation and 2.96 million pounds (1.34 million kg) of CO2-e emissions from the supply chain.
CHEP USA also benefits from more economical freight movements, operational efficiencies, increased availability of network capacity and improved levels of service and on-time deliveries in its network.
The program has expanded over the past year, with CHEP USA working with more than 40 customers with private transportation fleets and mutual third party vendors to identify opportunities and share in the benefits. CHEP USA will continue expand the program and work with customers where mutual benefits can be derived.
